  11. Alpha FOUR v2.1.x (multi-user) from Alpha Software is compatible
  12. with LANtastic NOS v4.x and v5.x.

  14. Product Overview
  15. Alpha Four is a database management system designed to enable non-
  16. programmers to create custom data-processing applications without
  17. the need of traditional programming. Users can develop data-entry
  18. screens, custom reports, browse tables and queries on relational
  19. data sets through a menu-driven system.

  21. Product Installation Notes
  22. Install the multi-user version of Alpha Four on a shared directory
  23. on the network. The networking characteristics of Alpha Four are
  24. fully documented in the chapter "Network Issues" found in its
  25. Reference Manual. Things that need special attention are:
  26.  
  27. 1.   Alpha Four supports file and record locking through DOS SHARE.
  28.      You are required to load the DOS SHARE utility on each
  29.      workstation on your network. 
  30.  
  31. 2.   Each Alpha Four user must have a different Private Directory,
  32.      which contains user-specific configuration information such as
  33.      the name of the last used data set, default settings for
  34.      color, currency symbol, default printers, etc., stored in a
  35.      configuration file called A4.DFL in the Private Directory.
  36.  
  37. 3.   By default, a user's Private Directory is set to the current
  38.      working directory from which the user starts Alpha Four. Thus,
  39.      it is recommended you invoke Alpha Four from your Private
  40.      Directory, and put the Alpha Four Program Directory in your
  41.      DOS search path.
